These photographs depict Bunker Hill before the massive redevelopment project that made the area almost recognizable from its beginnings as an affluent residential area. Once filled with Victorian style homes, the expansion of available transportation (far reaching streetcar systems and eventually freeways), enabled Bunker Hill residents to move to less urban areas while still retaining access to the goods and services they enjoyed downtown. Eventually, most of the homes on Bunker Hill were abandoned and fell into disrepair.
In the late 1950s, the redevelopment project began. All the houses on Bunker Hill were razed and have slowly been replaced with mostly commercial high rise buildings.
